As a solo female traveler I love exploring mexico city, maybe it's the long walks as I enjoying seeing people going about their day to day lives as I let my imagination take its course about what their lives must be like in this metropolis that never seems to sleep. Mexico City is surrounded by mountainous terrain, and her streets are filled with green spaces, where you can sit and enjoy a cool beverage while observing pedestrians walking their dogs.

Getting there!

Mexico boasts one of the busiest airports in Latin America, so booking flights early is great way to start your travel plans not to mention flights tend to be cheaper between three weeks to four months before your travel date . So go ahead and book your flight. I personally recommend a 5 day stay to fully enjoy your stay but whatever you choose will be great and memorable. Flights arrive at the Benito Juarez International Airport, from there, be sure to take an Uber to your hotel destination. They are taxis at the airport as well but i find them to be a little more expensive than taking an Uber. I find that moving around in Ubers is very safe as a female traveler.

Where to stay

If you are considering hotels or airbnb's they are both great options, what matters most is the location of these. Safe areas for solo female traveler in Mexico city are La Condesa, Polanco, La Roma, Juarez to mention a few. Buildings are tailored with beautiful and enchanting architecture filled with vibrant colors and years of history. The area is heavily trafficked by tourist and has ample amount of restaurants and coffee shops, with multiple museums and beautiful green parks.

Money

The official currency for Mexico is the Mexican pesos and as October 2023 the Mexican pesos is equivalent to 17 US Dollars. Most places accept US dollars but be sure that your US note is free of physical damage since most places only take the US note if its in good condition. There are ATMs and money exchange booths at the airport and around Mexico City for your convenience and they are safe to use. Most places take credit cards, so you hardly need cash unless you are taking a state taxi.

Entertainment

Zocalo

Begin your exploration of Mexico City, at the Zócalo the center of the city. This bustling square is encompassed by landmarks such, as the Metropolitan Cathedral, Palacio Nacional and Templo Mayor.

Templo Mayor

A short distance, from the Zócalo you'll find the Templo Mayor, an archaeological site that gives us a fascinating look, into the Aztec civilization. By exploring the ruins and visiting the museum there you can truly immerse yourself in Mexicos pre Columbian history.

Frida Kahlo's Casa Azul

Art lovers shouldn't miss the chance to visit Casa Azul, which used to be the residence of the artist Frida Kahlo. This beautiful blue house, now transformed into a museum provides a glimpse, into Kahlo's life and artistic journey. Inside you can admire her captivating paintings, belongings and even step into her studio where she brought some of her iconic masterpieces to life.

Chapultepec Park

Get away, from the city life by exploring Chapultepec Park, which is renowned as one of the urban parks globally. Take a walk amidst gardens and pay a visit to Chapultepec Castle for breathtaking panoramic vistas or simply unwind by the serene lake. This tranquil haven nestled in the heart of Mexico City truly showcases the fusion of natural elements.

Bon voyage

So go on ahead and pack your bag and take that vacation you have been longing for while you explore the beauty of Mexico City. Enjoy the culture of this vibrant metropolis as you create memories. Que viva Mexico!
